A Global Media Company is seeking an Accessibility Specialist to join their team in Sunnyvale, CA!
We are looking for an Accessibility Specialist who shares passion for making digital products, media and services accessible to people with disabilities. In this role you will be a member of award-winning Accessibility team, will work with internationally recognized leaders who have changed the accessible and assistive technology industry, and with industry-leading engineers and designers. This role will be located in Sunnyvale, California where you’ ll work in a state-of-the-art Accessibility Lab in the heart of Silicon Valley with access to the latest computing devices, assistive technology, and experts in the field. Your primary role is to grow, manage, and deliver world-class Accessibility Lab and programs through presentations, training, and demonstrations of assistive technology solutions and best practices for accessible design on mobile, desktop OTT and wearable devices, and future technology platforms. You’ ll also research, recommend, and demonstrate new computing and assistive technologies that continue to make Accessibility Lab state-of-the-art. Your mission is to maximize the utilization of the lab and its resources to promote accessibility awareness, create empathy and understanding of assistive technology, disability culture and user requirements to fellow employees and VIP guests. You will develop, deliver and facilitate training that improves capabilities for creating and supporting accessible products and services and assist with product usability evaluations and user studies that deliver actionable insights that result in improved products. As a member of the Accessibility Team you’ ll also assist our experts in product evaluations and provide them with technical and logistical support for training, presentations, user studies, with marketing programs and campaigns, and at local, regional, national and international events and conferences.
This role demands someone who enjoys engaging and working with a variety of people at all levels of the company and with a variety of cross-functional teams on multiple products simultaneously. A successful candidate will have excellent oral and written communication skills and be able to clearly articulate technical concepts and issues to designers, software engineers, and product managers. Attention to detail is a must. Some travel is required (typically only a few days once or twice a quarter.) Successful candidates will have outstanding skills using one or more popular screen readers such as VoiceOver and TalkBack and experience using or training users on a variety of assistive technologies such as switches, alternate input devices, magnifiers. They will have the interest and ability to learn new products quickly, strong time-management skills, ability to work effectively to a deadline, and a passion for working in a fast-paced high-tech environment.
? Five or more years of experience in creating or evaluating digital product accessibility? Certified OTA, MA degree or equivalent in HCI, Education, Special Education, Disability Studies, or Vocational Rehabilitation? Demonstrable public speaking and presentation skills? Strong written communication skills? Expert using assistive technology such as VoiceOver, TalkBack, NVDA, JAWS, ZoomText, switches and alternate input devices, and other assistive technology with mobile devices.? Strong knowledge of industry accessibility guidelines and best practices such as WCAG 2.0 and 2.1, CVAA, and Section 508. Preferable Skills and Experience? Experience with Windows 10 and (Mac) OS X administration and accessibility features? Project management experience? Curriculum development, education and training?
