Job Description

Under the direct supervision of senior staff, the laboratory technician will be responsible for performing general laboratory duties and tasks, such as: formulating a variety of coatings, executing test methods, sample preparation, and data entry of results. Additional responsibilities will include calibration and care of instrumentation and chemical inventory management. This position supports the Performance Additives and Advanced Surface Solution product lines, which are utilized in various paints, coatings, and adhesives.


  • Responsible for planning and conducting experiments according to customer needs. This includes formulating various coatings and delivering consistent testing in accordance with standard operating procedures and test methods.

  • Performs data entry and basic data analysis as needed to support the technical team

  • Interfaces with technical team to assist in technical customer requests

  • Supports development and maintenance of lab procedures, work instructions, and laboratory equipment

  • Executes day-to-day tactical duties and tasks to maintain the lab in a safe, clean, and in fully functioning


  • Maintains electronic laboratory notebook, and may summarize lab work in written reports or presentations

  • Maintains chemical inventory, waste disposal, calibrations, and monitors, and ordering/stocking the lab

    using eProcurement and site stores

  • Follows Chemical Hygiene plan and looks for safety improvements


  • Strong work ethic, detailed oriented, and organized

  • Demonstrates strong writing and oral communication skills

  • Proficient at working on multiple projects using good time management skills

  • Displays strong interpersonal relationship skills

  • Computer literate with Microsoft Office

  • Able to work in a team environment as well as on independent assignments

  • Working hours are first shift. Occasional over time may be necessary.

  • Adheres to all safety rules including the safe handling of chemicals and required annual training


  • Four-year degree in Chemistry or related science field

  • Experience working in a laboratory in addition to lab coursework (e.G. Internship, co-op, contract position)
